“Listen to the wind, it talks. Listen to the silence, it speaks. Listen to your heart, it knows.”
As we move into full-on summer with historic heat temps rising, I remind myself of the above Native American Proverb. I know that weather conditions are temporary, just like our emotions, and that we should always be mindful of change. Being afraid or embarrassed of your feelings is like being afraid of the weather. And because emotions like tears, panic, anger, withdrawal, depression, lust, euphoria, etc. often come and go, I think of them like the weather conditions of our inner selves. This weather metaphor can be used to understand that all feelings are natural and normal. And at the end of the day, a person who is knowledgeable about their, and others, feelings and emotions will maximize their overall well-being, happiness and relationships to Make the best Impact.
Silence is a huge benefit to truly living with our own “unseen eyes.” Human-constructed noises have begun to take over the silence of nature, causing disruptions to our Earthly connections. More often than not, it is extremely hard to find a place free from man-made sounds, especially in a larger city. I know when I travel I like to enjoy the surrounding areas of the town I am in, but often become overwhelmed with the rush of sounds and cars. When this happens, I take a moment to stop and drown out the noise so that I can ground myself again and be on my way.
We have become so accustomed to these types of man-made sounds that we do not even know silence anymore or how to embrace it. Yet, we are all human, and deep down we know when to trust our gut and instincts. I often wonder what our world would be like if more people really stopped to listen to the cues of nature and drown out all of the noise. There truly is a beauty in silence and listening. I know that all of our lives can get so busy, but intentionally taking the time to stop and listen to the world around us will give us valuable insights and wisdom to share with others!
We’ve had a season of major waking up collectively as humanity. The effects of COVID-19 and quarantine have greatly opened the eyes of many. Being ‘trapped’ inside and only able to hear the sounds of my TV, I made sure that I appreciated nature in new and different ways. Anytime I could get outside I would feel the sun and it’s heat, basking in the warmth of the day. But I of course always wore sunscreen! The act of connecting with the weather and the Earth helps me to feel grounded and transform any negativity I may have into love!
I truly believe that healing for this planet is coming. Each day provides a chance to radiate love and make our existence on this Earth successful and purposeful. And kindness brings more love for all of us on our mission to Make Impact! How are you connecting with the Earth today?
