Philanthropist Beverly Adams Opens Up About Why She Devotes Her Life to Making Impact

“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.” – Mother Teresa

Growing up in a military family, I realized my burning passion to Make Impact on others from the first moment I stepped on base at a young age. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized I could take that passion beyond my own community, beginning a movement comprised of everyday heroes dedicated to making a real difference in their own communities. As Changers, we believe Making Impact isn’t limited to flashy monetary donations. Instead, our Changers focus on making small adjustments to our daily interactions with others, spreading kindness and love to our communities through easy and attainable acts of kindness towards friends, family, strangers and more.

Just like I’ve proved throughout my life and work, everyone can be a Changer — no matter whether you’re young or adult. All it takes to Make Impact is a passion and commitment to give, even if it’s something as small as gifting a smile or lending a helping hand to someone who is having a bad day.

Learn more about the “a-ha” moment I felt when I discovered my passion for philanthropy, and how you can join our growing group of enlightened Changers across the globe.

  • My Path to Discovering How Good It Feels to Make Impact
Most of us grow up being told that we should help our family and friends whenever possible. It always gave me such a great feeling to help others without being asked to do so and, at 16 years old, I realized that I could Make Impact on an even greater scale and get that same euphoric feeling by also giving back to strangers. At the time, I was living on a military base and grew accustomed to watching the difficulties that families often face when moving on base. Not only is moving on base physically stressful and tiring, but also it can be challenging for family members to mentally transition from civilian life to military housing. I knew that I could Make Impact on the lives of all these families, simply by checking in on their needs, offering assistance whenever possible and reassuring them that they always had a friend in me.
  • The Spark That Started a Movement
While working as a commercial and television producer, a cable network executive told me something that will always have a special place in my heart: “Your job is what you trade the days of your life for; therefore, your job has to have significant meaning to you.” After I heard this sage advice, I realized that I didn’t have to sacrifice my passion for helping others in order to have a successful career. That was the exact moment when I switched gears entirely and devoted my whole life to growing our community of Changers, united by the scientifically proven power that philanthropy has on both the receiver and giver.
  • What Our Movement Will Do for the World
Our movement of Making Impact is made up of a powerful collection of people dedicated to effecting positive change within their individual communities. But our reach doesn’t just stop there. Each act of kindness initiated by a Changer has the ability to spread across the entire world, ignited by the “pass it forward” culture our society needs more than ever. Through everyday philanthropy, our Changers are challenged with an introspective look at how we respond and react to our environment, including people in need of help all around us. Through this movement, each and every one of us will make the world a better place with no expectation of reward.

Throughout my life, I’ve learned that when we give back to others, we do even more for our own life’s fulfillment. Making an Impact isn’t just an amazing way to connect with your roots and community; also, it is scientifically proven that giving makes us healthier, happier humans who lead more prosperous lives. Join me in the movement of Making Impact and learn how you too can become a Changer by turning small, everyday acts of kindness into BIG actionable results for your community and
